The Hunchback of Notre Dame starring Lon Chaney is one of the first film adaptations of Victor Hugo's novel about hunchback Quasimodo's love for Esmeralda. The sheer spectacle of production and Chaney's poignant, star-making performance are unforgetable. For the filming Chaney wore a hump and harness weighing 60 pounds, twisting his torso to feel the pain of Quasimodo and delivering a performance that earned him worldwide fame.
